Schools Cycling SA (SCSA) trusts that you and your families are safe and well. Our thoughts are with those who have been severely affected by the pandemic.
In the latest government gazette issued 1 August 2021 all contact as well as non-contact sport including competitive events, without spectators are allowed.
Last week the Executive Committee consisting of all respective Provincial Chairpersons and the League Director met followed with Provincial committee meetings to try and salvage part of the League season.
Outcome as follows:
• No National Finals due to National alert level 3 (maximum number of 100 participants as well as travel and cost implications to Schools.
• Each Province will revert to their own cycling activities (racing events or other activities as determined by each Province).
• Racing format will depend on each Province.
• Every Province is facing unique challenges and their decision to partake or not in events/activities will be respected by SCSA.
Please note that each School will be responsible for the monitoring of their School’s adherence to safety and return to event protocols.
SCSA is also sad to announce that Spur due to the financial impact of the pandemic will no longer be able to continue their title sponsorship towards the Schools MTB League.
We are Spur forever grateful for presenting opportunities to our learners for more than 10 years and the memories will be forever engraved in our hearts. We wish Spur all of the best with their future endeavours and hope that our paths will cross rather sooner than later. Once part of the Schools Cycling family always part of the Schools Cycling family.
Although it is the end of an era it is also creating new opportunities for SCSA. We are in collaboration with the League Director who is busy to negotiate with potential new sponsors for the Schools League 2022/23 and our future plans will be communicated as soon as finalised.
SCSA would like to thank our members who continue to adhere to the Covid-19 protocols as any deviation from this directive will be unsanctioned. The safety of our school riders and officials will always be our top priority.
Kind Regards,
Annelize Ziehl-Owens
President
